We all want to have the hulking power that some of the strongest heavyweights pack behind their fists. If you want to knock your opponent out clean, you will need to work with a heavy bag. They are found in most MMA training clubs and for good reason. Here are a few reasons you should be beating the heavy bag up every practice.
Develop Power.
Using the bag and hitting it with all you got every day will only improve the strength behind every punch, kick, knee and elbow you can throw. Always visualize your actual opponent every time you are hitting the bag.
Just make sure every punch is with absolute intensity. This is your chance to see what you actually have. Your sparring partner will not allow you to do this to them, so utilize it.
Cardio.
Using the heavy bag for beginners is often a short workout. As you improve on it throw heavy combination’s, over and over again, increasing your time. You should be able to work up to 5 x 5 minute rounds if you wish to be a champion.
Make sure you are using everything you have the ability to strike with: fists, elbows, knees, and shins.
Ground and Core Work.
There are some other techniques you can master from using a heavy bag should its quality allow it. Pick the bag up with your bare hands, squat to the ground, shoot up, throw it in the air and catch it while going back into a squat x10 for 3 rounds.
A good trick to get really strong legs in guard is to hang from the heavy bag and do sit-ups on it. Although it is best to check if your instructor will allow this on the bags, as some may be old and may not support as well.
There are many reasons more to use the heavy bag in training. These are only the beginning. Utilize a full MMA strength and conditioning program to work the bag effectively for power and agility. Träning thaiboxning
