Pokemon is an iconic franchise with a fanbase that spans across generations. It’s no secret that fans love the game’s characters and worlds, which is why it’s no surprise to see fans making a range of Pokemon-themed projects. One of the more impressive projects we’ve seen is a Redditor who’s recreating Kanto entirely out of Lego. Buscags1 has been posting updates to the Pokemon subreddit and showing off how they’re making progress on their project, which already has Pallet Town, all of Johto, and now Sinnoh.
The Pokémon franchise has been a global hit since its release in 1998, and fans have long wished to bring the popular pocket monsters to life in a real-world setting. While it’s unlikely that this will ever happen, it’s possible to make Pokemon statues out of LEGO bricks without too much difficulty.
There aren’t any official Pokemon Lego sets, but there are plenty of LEGO-competing building block brands that produce a wide variety of Pokemon-themed toys. For example, Mega Construx is a Lego-competing brand that produces a range of Pokemon construction brick toys that have been designed to be easy to build with minimal pieces.
These toys can be used to construct your own Pokemon, and are a great way for kids to get hands-on experience with their favourite characters. Each set comes with all the pieces needed to create the Pokemon figurine, and a colorful instruction book to teach children how to assemble their own set.
In addition to traditional Pokemon sets, there are also LEGO-competing building blocks that mimic the look of the yellow bricks. These blocks are available in a variety of colors and shapes, and can be used to make your own Pokemon figure or a variety of other designs.
Some fans are even creating life-sized statues of their favorite Pokémon with LEGO pieces. In 2020, LEGO Master Builder Dave Holder shared a pair of jaw-dropping Pokemon builds on Reddit that left fans in awe.
He took over 2,000 bricks and a few plates to build his creations, which included Charmander, Ditto, Eevee, and Geodude. These statues are incredibly detailed, and while they may require a lot of time to make, they’re worth every bit of the effort.
Another fan-made Pokemon sculpture that caught our attention was a set by Team BRICKREATE, who made a 1,579-piece model of a Pokémon center on the LEGO Ideas site. This model features three Pokemon, including a Pikachu, and the lab in which the center is located. It isn’t currently for sale, but it’s an amazing idea and a perfect way to encourage kids to be creative with their LEGO.
LEGO-competing Mega Bloks has a Pokemon-themed line of construction brick toys that’s sure to please fans who want to play with their favorite video game character. These construction bricks are similar to those found in LEGO, but they are more round and feature posable limbs.
Despite this, they have yet to create an official LEGO Pokemon set and, according to their website, they “have no plans to pursue the Pokemon license.” It’s unfortunate that the company didn’t give it a try, but this could be just a case of them being too busy with other projects to give Pokemon toys a chance.
