Hinge recently introduced a new feature to its dating app: roses. Roses are essentially super-charged likes that allow you to signal interest in someone beyond the standard like or match. You can use roses in your Discover feed and Standouts, and they’ll show up at the top of that person’s card stack, letting them know you’re interested in them.
Unlike likes, which reset every day, Roses don’t. You get one free rose per week, which you can use to send a special message to someone in your Discover or Standouts feeds. You can also purchase additional roses. The site says that a Rose “shows someone you’re excited to get to know them, and helps give your profile a boost” when they’re in the middle of their match queue.
A rose on a dating app doesn’t mean you’re going to date them. You still need to go through their profile, respond to their prompts, and generally do the same things you would with any other match you find on the app. The difference is that when you send a rose, their card will appear in your match queue ahead of others who have only liked them.
How To Send Roses
You can access the rose button next to the like button on your Hinge profile. When you click it, a pop-up will ask if you’re sure you want to send the rose; if so, tap “send.” The recipient will receive the rose and will be able to see it in their standouts section.
The rose will stay in the recipient’s match queue for about a week. After that, it will disappear. If you want to keep your rose, you can re-send it for free.
How To Keep Roses Fresh
When a rose arrives, take it out of the box and trim the stems. Then, place the flowers in a vase with a little bit of room temperature water and a packet of flower food (or two tablespoons of sugar). Put the roses somewhere that gets indirect sunlight so they can continue to thrive.
If you’re not a big rose fan, don’t worry. You can choose from a variety of other flowers to send as a gift. Alternatively, you can opt for a gift basket or even a box of chocolates to help your loved ones feel their best.
How To Make Roses Last
As with any tool in the dating game, it’s important to use roses wisely. Don’t just send one to anyone who’s shown some interest in you; it’s a sign of appreciation, not a magic wand. You’ll want to spend time reading their profile, looking at their photos, and gauging whether they’re a good fit for you. It’s up to them to reply to your messages, answer your prompts, and show you some genuine interest if they want to move things forward. This is how real relationships are built in the digital age. And who knows, that person could be your next partner. Send Roses
